If I get this opportunity, I will be in the country for about one year and I'm very excited about the possibility.
I do have some questions, and if they seem a bit ignorant I apologize, but I know very little about Auckland and New Zealand and while I've been reading about the country and city on the web, I'd love to hear some first hand accounts.
My first questions are in regard to life in Auckland.
I'll be making pretty decent money and I know that New Zealand has a high cost of living.
It's my hope to be able to save most of what I make this year but I may never get an opportunity like this again, so I really do want to enjoy it.
As a young professional gay man, what would be some recommendations with regard to neighborhoods to seek out or avoid?
I currently live in West Hollywood which is VERY gay (and also relatively expensive).
I know that Auckland is MUCH smaller than Los Angeles, but is there a comparable "gayborhood," or at least an area of town that has a higher density of 20-40 year old gay men?
Also, what can I expect to pay in rents, fees, utilities, transportation costs, etc?
